Kirk Franklin’s son, Kerrion, recorded him using some choice words during a heated family argument. Is this an issue? According to Black Twitter, it’s not! Kirk Franklin supporters spoke out against his son and for him, all the while wondering why he needed to apologize in the first place.
What happened?
The younger Franklin posted on Instagram that he was “finally out of a 14 year deep hole of chaos & confusion.” He says the post, a JET magazine cover, was the last one he was “allowed to take” with his family. The younger Franklin 32-year-old (Kirk Franklin says his son will be 33 in May) says his grandparents support him and “they are very upset” with his parents. Apparently, he’s also about to be interviewed about their strained relationship. (see posts below)
Since Kerrion released the recording, Kirk Franklin has apologized (see post below) but also made clear that this is a private family matter. The 51-year-old says he felt “extremely disrespected” during the conversation with his son. He admits he “said words that are not appropriate.” According to the elder Franklin, he called the family therapist during the conversation but that part wasn’t released. “I’m not perfect. I’m human.” He finishes by asking you to pray for his family.
What say you? As a gospel artist and proclaimed man of God, did Kirk Franklin need to apologize? Or, is this a case of people putting celebrities on a pedestal and screaming hypocrite when they fall from grace?
