Today is St. Patrick’s Day and while everyone is wearing their green and planning their shenanigans I am celebrating my Irish roots because per my Ancestry DNA I am 1% Irish (don’t judge me) so while making plans on eating Corn Beef and Cabbage I am going to pick between these 4 films about St. Patrick’s Day while honoring my African American roots.

#3. THE COMMITMENTS

This musical comedy with a touch of drama is a love letter to soul music in Dublin Ireland. A local get his friends to form a soul band influenced by African American Artist.

#2. THE GUARD

When you have a fast paced comedy starring Brendan Gleeson who plays an Irish cop paired with Don Cheadle as a serious FBI you can expect the unexpected along with great laughs.

#1. FINIAN’s RAINBOW

Hollywood legend Fred Astaire stars as an Irish immigrant who brings his daughter to the South while the move features interaction with African American locals and racial harmony.

So, as you’re celebrating in your own special way take some time out and learn about 1 culture while celebrating your own.
