LOS ANGELES — A mother of six died Thursday from complications from the coronavirus days after giving birth to her youngest daughter.
Veronica Guevara-Giron, 37, was eight months pregnant when she tested positive for the coronavirus, KCAL reported.
“She started saying that she couldn’t breathe. She developed a cough that couldn’t go away, so they ended up taking her to the hospital,” her sister-in-law, Nathalia Giron, told KCAL.

Guevara-Giron was hospitalized for more than a week. Her daughter, Imani, was delivered five weeks early and put in the neonatal intensive care unit. A day later, Guevara-Giron was put on a ventilator.
“They called her husband and said she wasn’t getting any better, that he could come see her,” Giron said.

Other than her pregnancy, she had no underlying conditions, her family said.
The family started a crowdsourced funding account to help cover funeral costs.
“We can give all the love and support a family can give, but we’re never going to amount to the mother she was,” Giron said.
