Forecasters project above average Atlantic hurricane season

CSU forecasts 17 named storms for 2021.

Jacksonville, Fl — The 2021 Colorado State University Atlantic hurricane seasonal outlook is for an above average season.

CSU forecasts 17 named storms for 2021, eight hurricanes and four major hurricanes.

Lead Meteorologist Philip Klotzbach says one of the reasons for the above-average seasonal forecast is due to the likely lack of El Nino this summer and fall. El Nino generally increases vertical wind shear in the Atlantic, tearing apart hurricanes.
