Local Jacksonville Man Brings Awareness To National Second Chance Month

During the month of April, it is recognized as National Second Chance Month. It highlights that individuals shouldn’t be defined by their past mistakes and deserve a fair opportunity to find employment and make contributions to society.

Finding employment after being incarcerated can be very challenging as nearly 1 in 3 Americans with a criminal record, which can limit access to housing, job, and education according to the National Reentry Resource Center.

Being unemployed and looking for a job can be very stressful because I have been there. However, I can only imaging having a record and looking for employment after paying your debt to society is just adding more pressure to establish a stable quality of life.

Meet Darrielle Rucker, he is a 36-year-old man in Jacksonville and currently looking for employment, but a criminal record from 15 years ago has prevented his hopes of finding employment.

So, he became creative and went to social media to find employment while making people aware of the struggles he faces daily.

I was scrolling on TikTok and came across his profile and felt the need to talk to him and hear his story.

I really hope that employers will find empathy and give those like Darrielle who need a second chance an opportunity to get back into the workforce.

Also, an individual did reach out to me in regards to him so I’ll keep you updated to see if he was successful in getting the job.
